Bar Bruno

Bar Bruno has served breakfasts and sandwiches from 101 Wardour Street since the 1960s, when it was opened by an Italian proprietor known simply as Bruno. His nephew Frank began working there in the 1970s and later took over the business, and now runs the café alongside his own son. The room keeps its original two-level layout, with seating upstairs and down, laminate tables and a menu covering fried breakfasts with sausages and hash browns, sandwiches filled with smoked salmon, ham or steak, jacket potatoes and a Quattro Formaggi toastie among the Italian-influenced options. Portions are large and prices have stayed close to £10 a meal. Open from 4am, it draws an early crowd of market traders and night-shift workers alongside office staff, and is regularly cited as one of the last surviving traditional Italian cafés on a street once lined with them.
