Castle Street Bistro occupies one of the smallest dining rooms in Kirkcudbright, seating around six tables in a converted shopfront on Castle Street. Chef-owner Paul cooks and serves personally, explaining the short daily menu at each table and adapting dishes for gluten-free and vegan diets on request. The kitchen uses Galloway beef, local game and seafood landed along the Solway coast, alongside a sideline in wood-fired pizza available to order for collection. The bistro has appeared in the Rough Guide to Scotland and Lonely Planet guidebooks and has been a finalist for the regional restaurant of the year award. Booking ahead is necessary given the limited covers. The restaurant previously traded as The Castle Restaurant under the same ownership before adopting its current name.
