The Digby Tap trades as a free house on Cooks Lane in Sherborne, unattached to any brewery or pub company, and keeps four hand pumps running with one regular session ale and three rotating guest beers. Part of the building is timber-framed from the 1550s-1700s; parish records show it operated as the Sherborne workhouse from 1749 before being converted into a tap room in 1870, when the adjoining Digby Hotel was built next door. The hotel later became a school in 1964, but the Tap kept trading as a pub throughout. It opens seven days, from 11am on weekdays and Saturdays and from midday on Sundays, serving simple home-cooked food alongside the ale.
