The Duke of York sits on Jubilee Road in St Werburgh's, an independently run free house rather than part of any pub company's estate. The single main room is fitted with a rare working skittle alley alongside a pool table and dartboard, and shelves around the walls hold a running collection of books and board games for anyone to pick up. Four cask lines change regularly, drawn mostly from Bristol-area breweries, with a dark beer and a best bitter kept on more or less permanently alongside real cider and a handful of low- and no-alcohol options. A covered garden and an open fire either side of the season keep trade going through summer and winter. Families are welcome into the early evening, after which the pub settles into a quieter, adult crowd around the skittle alley.
