The Drapers Arms opened at the end of 2015 as Bristol's first micropub, converted from a shop unit on Gloucester Road by Vince Crocker and Garvan Hickey. Vince has since moved on to run Ashley Down Brewery, leaving Garvan at the helm of a single room with no music, no television and no fruit machines, in keeping with the Micropub Association's model of a small free house built around conversation. Between four and seven cask ales are on at any time, sourced mostly from small breweries within thirty miles of Bristol, alongside a rotating cider list. The pub opens from mid-afternoon on weekdays and from noon on Bristol Rovers matchdays, when the ground nearby draws a different, louder crowd than the regulars who prop up the bar on a quiet Tuesday.
