Findlay's of Portobello is a family butcher shop on Portobello High Street that traces its trading name back to 1974, when it opened in central Edinburgh before moving to its current premises, itself a butcher's shop for more than a century. Joe Findlay took over the business in 1986 and still runs it today. The shop makes its own haggis, black pudding, sausages and bacon on site, using beef from Speyside farms, pork from Hillfoot Farm near Hawick, and lamb from the Scottish Borders, with beef aged for a minimum of two weeks. Its haggis has featured on Rick Stein's Food Heroes and in Ainsley Harriott's rundown of foods to try before you die. The shop trades Monday to Saturday and remains a single-site, family-run business rather than part of a wider retail group.
