Gowanlea Nurseries &Garden Centre

Gowanlea has operated on Barrochan Road in Johnstone since 1954, when Jack Johnston established the nursery; his son Stuart Johnston and a third generation have since continued the business, which the family describes as having passed through three generations across roughly seventy years. The centre grows and sells cut flowers, bedding plants, shrubs, herbaceous plants and heathers alongside fruit and vegetable plants, compost and bark, and runs a floristry counter for wedding and occasion work under the Flowers by Margo name. A food and gift side of the business sells fresh fruit and vegetables, free-range eggs, gift baskets and chocolates. The nursery hosts seasonal events for the local community, including an autumn pumpkin maze. Gowanlea Garden Centre Ltd remains a family-run operation rather than part of a larger retail group, trading six or seven days a week depending on the season, with reduced Sunday opening outside peak periods.
