The Burnish Works opened in 2024 in a small workshop unit on Floors Street in Johnstone, set up as a shared bench for three independent jewellery makers: Lisa Crockard, Nicole McCarron and Jennifer Tsang. Each maker designs and produces her own handcrafted jewellery on site, working across techniques including wax carving, bangle forming, stacking-ring construction and keum boo, a Korean method of fusing gold foil to silver. Alongside their own commissioned and retail work, the three run group classes and taster sessions teaching these techniques to beginners, and hold a monthly Open Studio where visitors can call in without booking to see the workshop in use. The space positions itself as a working studio rather than a retail-only outlet, with the making process visible to anyone attending a class or open day. It is a recent addition to Johnstone's town centre, replacing older retail units with a bench-based jewellery business run by its three founding makers.
