Imperial Cafe has traded from Splott Road for close to twenty years under owner Joe, known locally for running what regulars call "Joe's cafe." It is a plain, eat-in and takeaway café serving all-day breakfasts, omelettes, paninis, jacket potatoes and burger meals alongside traditional dishes such as fish and chips and faggots with mash. The cafe is linked in ownership to Benedito's, a Portuguese deli further along Splott Road, though it trades under its own name with its own till, seating and menu. Portions are generous and prices remain low compared with cafes in the city centre. Regulars use it for breakfast before work and for a cooked lunch, and staff are noted for remembering customers' usual orders. The café keeps to a no-frills format rather than following recent café trends toward specialty coffee or brunch menus, and remains one of the few traditional cafes still trading on Splott Road.
