J B Wallhead & Sons has outfitted Brigg from 52 Wrawby Street since 1897, when James Blackburn Wallhead opened the shop. Now in the hands of fourth-generation Richard Wallhead, with a fifth generation following, it is the oldest independent retailer in the town. The shop sells men's and country clothing for town and field, from shirts, suits and jackets to belts, socks, hats and caps, carrying labels such as Barbour, Schoffel, Aigle, Le Chameau, Viyella and Failsworth. Fittings are done in person, with the measuring-tape service that has kept farmers, shooters and townspeople returning across five generations. The wood-fitted interior has changed little in decades. It stands on the pedestrianised main street, close to Brigg's monthly farmers' market, and keeps regular shop hours through the week.
