Gemma founded Lark Design Make on the corner of Dogfield Street and Robert Street in Cathays, running craft workshops from a studio that doubles as a yarn and gift shop between classes. A rotating team of around ten tutors covers sewing, crochet, needle felting, lino printing, wood carving, silversmithing, polymer clay and weaving, with sessions pitched from total beginner through to dressmaking and quilting. Children's after-school clubs run alongside adult evening classes, and private workshops can be booked for hen parties or birthdays. Visitors are welcome to browse the shop whenever a class or event is running rather than only during fixed retail hours. The studio won Craft Studio of the Year at the Wales Prestige Awards for 2025/26, recognition for a business built on teaching skills rather than simply selling finished pieces.
