Lindores Abbey Distillery in Newburgh occupies the site of the Tironensian abbey where, in 1494, Exchequer Rolls first recorded a monk producing aqua vitae for King James IV. Distilling resumed here in 2017 after a gap of more than five centuries. The visitor centre runs guided tours and self-guided tastings, with a bar overlooking the abbey ruins and whisky and gin sold on site.
