The Nags Head Inn stands on Twyn Square in Usk, a Grade II listed pub building dating from 1641 that has traded continuously since the square served as the town's market place. The Key family bought the pub in the 1960s and now run it in its third generation, with family members still greeting guests at the door. Operating as a free house, the Nags Head chooses its own beers rather than tying to a single brewery, typically keeping two regular real ales alongside a rotating guest beer. The kitchen serves locally sourced pub food with seasonal specials and vegetarian and vegan choices alongside the traditional menu. The building retains features from its coaching-inn past, when it provided food, ale and stabling for travellers passing through Usk. It remains a working fixture of the town square today, used by locals calling in for a pint and by visitors eating in the restaurant section.
