Nidderdale Llamas began as a diversification of Kiln Farm at Wilsill, near Pateley Bridge, after Suzanne and James Benson bought their first llama around 2003 and opened the trekking business to visitors in April 2009. The family, now including their three sons, runs treks and non-walking meet-the-herd experiences from the farm, with llamas carrying picnics on longer routes rather than being ridden. The herd has grown to around ninety llamas and alpacas since the business began, and bookings are taken in advance for the farm's setting in Nidderdale, around thirty minutes from Harrogate and twenty from Ripon. Nidderdale Llamas operates from this single farm site rather than at multiple locations, and remains a family-run concern more than fifteen years after it first opened its gates to trekkers.
