North Uist Distillery operates from Nunton Steadings, a cluster of restored farm buildings on Benbecula that sits on the Hebridean Way cycle route. It was set up by Jonny and Kate, who returned to the islands to run their own distillery and now work with a small team. Its Downpour Gin range, built around citrus and heather notes, has been named Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year at the Scottish Gin Awards for three consecutive years and won Dry Gin of the Year in 2024, alongside a Spirit of the Year award from the London Spirits Competition in 2023. A Nunton whisky is in development alongside the gin range. Guided tours and tastings run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, finishing in the on-site shop. Despite the company name, the distillery sits on Benbecula rather than North Uist proper, reflecting the connected chain of islands it draws water and botanicals from.
