MacLeans Bakery

MacLeans Bakery has traded from Uachdar on Benbecula, just off the A865, since the MacLean brothers took over the business in 1987. The bakery produces bread, rolls, pastries, savouries, oatcakes and biscuits daily using long-standing methods, and its oatcakes and shortbread are its best-known lines. A butchery counter operates alongside the bakery in the same premises. Goods reach customers through the shop itself, mail order, and a network of local retailers stocking MacLeans products across Benbecula and the Uists, rather than through any branch network of its own. Shop hours run Monday 9:30am to 1pm, Tuesday to Friday 9:30am to 5:30pm, and Saturday 9:30am to 4pm. Benbecula sits between North and South Uist and is linked to both by causeway, making Uachdar a regular stop for islanders and visitors travelling the length of the Uists.
