Rookery Nook is a one-room bed and breakfast on the square in Shere, one of the older villages in the Surrey Hills below the North Downs. The double room has its own private bathroom and use of a television lounge, in a building that keeps its original wonky floorboards, creaky doors and open fires. Breakfast is made with locally sourced ingredients, with a choice of full English, continental or fresh fruit salad. Shere itself has a run of half-timbered buildings, a bakery, antique shops and the twelfth-century church of St James, all within walking distance. The B&B is independently run, with no wider group ownership, and suits walkers, cyclists and riders exploring the surrounding North Downs at a quieter pace than the busier villages nearby.
