Skipper's Fishmonger

Skipper's is the shop-front of West Coast Sea Products, the King family's scallop business, named for John King Senior, who started lobster-fishing out of Kirkcudbrightshire in 1964; the company runs five boats and lands, processes and packs scallops within a day for markets across the world, and the counter on Dee Walk sells the same catch to the town that provides the crews. The register shows the King family in control, which is the point — this is a working fishery's own shop, not a middleman's, and the fish is as fresh as the supply chain is short. The family opened a seafood restaurant, Swally n' Scran, in 2025 besides. Kirkcudbright is famous for its painters; it eats, quietly, extremely well.
