Steam Town Brew Co occupies a run-down Victorian building on Bishopstoke Road in Eastleigh that was built as a pub at the turn of the twentieth century but never opened as one, after a planning application was refused. Director David Mackie founded the brewery in 2017, pouring Steam Town's first pint on the site more than a century after that rejected application. The six-barrel brewhouse produces around ten cask and keg beers, most named after the railway works that built the town, and the taproom's fittings, from clocks to old ticket booths, are repurposed from the railway. A kitchen serves burgers and fries alongside the beer, and the brewery runs Beer Knights tasting sessions that include a tour of the plant. The site also has a private hire space, known as Up the Junction, for parties and functions.
