Nigel Platts-Martin and Bruce Poole opened The Glasshouse on Station Parade in Kew in 1999, and the kitchen has held a Michelin star every year since 2002. Floor-to-ceiling glass fronts the dining room beside Kew Gardens station, giving the restaurant its name and filling the room with daylight. The cooking is modern European with a classical French backbone, offered through a seasonal tasting menu and an à la carte, alongside a wine list running to several hundred bins. The room seats around sixty across two levels and takes booking well ahead for weekend tables. This is the only Glasshouse restaurant, with no second branch elsewhere in London. Twenty-five years after opening, it remains among a small number of London restaurants to have held a star continuously since the early 2000s.
