Bookcase has traded on Chiswick High Road since 1993, a family-owned shop built around new books sold at bargain prices rather than a curated, full-price selection. Stock turns over through remainders and publisher overstock, so the shelves change week to week more than a typical independent bookshop's would. In 2022 the owners converted the basement into Underground Vinyl, a dedicated record shop reached by a staircase behind the till, adding secondhand and new vinyl to what had been a books-only address. The two floors are run as one business with shared hours rather than as separate lettings. The shop has become a fixture of the Turnham Green end of the high road, competing on price against larger chains while keeping the range general enough for browsing rather than specialist collecting.
