Vanessa Delicatessen & Café sits on Saturday Market and is run by Stuart and Vanessa Barker, who moved into delicatessen and café trade after years running fish and chip shops locally. Downstairs, an in-house butchery counter prepares traditional roasting joints, steak cuts and artisan sausages to order, alongside shelves of Yorkshire cheeses, cured meats and bakery goods from small producers. Upstairs, the café serves breakfast and lunch built from the same counter, plus afternoon teas. The shop takes its name from Vanessa Barker, and the couple built their supplier list around contacts made during earlier careers in the food trade. It occupies a shopfront on the market square itself, one of several independent food shops clustered around Saturday Market, where stalls still set up on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
