Y Cyfnod occupies a High Street building in Bala that has served the town under several guises: a newspaper shop in the early twentieth century, a chemist during wartime rationing, and later a bicycle repair business, before its conversion to a café. Run today by owner Mehmet, it is generally reckoned the oldest continuously operating café in Bala. The kitchen turns out a menu that mixes Italian dishes, pizza and pasta, with local Welsh produce and daily specials, alongside all-day breakfasts and cakes baked on the premises. Its High Street position, opposite the town's historic clock tower and a short walk from Llyn Tegid, makes it a regular stop for walkers and cyclists using the lake shore path. Tables spill onto the pavement in summer.
