Arcadia opened as a bakery in 1933, when Ellen Brown started it on the Lisburn Road, and three generations of Browns have kept it there ever since — Mark and Laura Brown have run it since 2006, and marked its ninetieth year in 2023. It is a proper neighbourhood deli: cheese cut to order, cooked meats, fresh bread, the makings of a good lunch, and hampers sent out from the same counter. On a long road of shops that turn over quickly, Arcadia has been the fixed point for the better part of a century, passed down rather than sold on. A family deli in the truest sense.
