Astley Vineyard was planted in 1971 on a five-acre site in a wooded valley near Stourport-on-Severn, making it one of the oldest commercial vineyards still producing wine in Britain. Tim and Bev Haywood took over the vineyard in 2017, with their son Chris now the winemaker and his partner Matleena also involved in the business. The vines are Madeleine Angevine, Siegerrebe, Bacchus and Kerner, and the Haywoods produce around 7,000 bottles a year, concentrating on still white wines alongside a sparkling wine made from Kerner and an occasional late-harvest wine. The tasting room and shop open at weekends, and the family runs vineyard tours through the summer months. The vineyard sits ten miles north of Worcester, close to the River Severn, on the original planting site.
