Robin Balme set up Bruton Bike Hire in 2022 after noticing that the hills surrounding Bruton discouraged casual cyclists from exploring the area. Operating from a single premises at 76 High Street, the business hires six Cube electric bikes, each fitted with a Bosch motor and lithium-ion battery, alongside a stock of second-hand pedal bikes, including mountain bikes and hybrids. Bikes are available by the half-day, day or week, with delivery offered to customers' accommodation or a chosen starting point. Balme also plans cycling routes through the surrounding Somerset countryside and can lead guided tours on request. The business has no other branches, and bookings are taken directly through its own website rather than a national hire platform.
