Elderberry Blacks opened on Knowle High Street in 2017, when Hayley, a trained chef who had previously run pop-up restaurants around Birmingham, decided to open a permanent café of her own. The kitchen makes nearly everything in house, from breads to cakes, and the all-day menu runs from cooked breakfasts to brunch plates with vegetarian and vegan options. A prep-meal service lets customers order ready-to-cook boxes for collection. The café shares its premises with an on-site florist, Elderberry's Forest, so cut flowers and plants are sold alongside the tables. The interior is small and informal, with space available for private hire for baby showers and similar gatherings. It is independently owned and run day to day by Hayley herself, with no other branches.
