Elk Books opened on Queen Street in Warrenpoint in August 2025, close to the shore front and named after the town's roadside elk sculpture. Owner Helene Heaney, who had worked in education, had wanted to open a bookshop since lockdown and stocks the shelves herself, ordering in any title not already held for collection within 48 hours. The range covers general adult and children's fiction with a particular focus on Irish writers and a growing shelf of books written as Gaeilge. A corner given over to younger readers, the Little Elks Book Nook, is aimed at children from early years to around eleven. Helene's husband Seamus runs the shop's first book club, Elk Lodge Men's Readers, meeting monthly. Comfortable seating and decorative touches fill the small shopfront.
