Gallery Forty-Nine occupies two floors of a Georgian listed building at 1 Market Place in Bridlington's Old Town, and operates as an independent contemporary art gallery rather than a commercial chain. It shows original paintings, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery, largely by artists living and working in Yorkshire, together with limited edition prints and etchings that on occasion include work by Royal Academicians such as David Hockney and Sir Peter Blake. The gallery is open Thursday to Saturday, with slightly shorter winter hours and a reduced Saturday-only schedule in January. Set back from Bridlington's harbour and seafront in the town's oldest quarter, it is one of a small number of dedicated galleries serving the East Yorkshire coast.
