Gate Gallery & Glassworks occupies a listed 17th-century building beside the river in Brecon, combining a maker's studio with a small gallery. Resident glassmaker Kathryn Roberts, who trained at the Royal College of Art and has worked in glass for more than thirty years, produces bespoke vessels, objects and lighting in the fully fitted glassworks in the basement, and also takes on commissions and the restoration of antique glass. The ground-floor gallery shows her own pieces alongside work by other contemporary British applied artists in glass, ceramics, enamel and textiles. Visitors can often see making in progress. The gallery opens Thursday to Saturday afternoons, with Monday and Tuesday visits available by appointment, and stands on Watergate close to the bridge and the town's main shopping streets. It is independently run by the maker herself.
