Lanigans has traded as a fishmonger from the same shop on Clifton Street since the business was incorporated in 1949, and the Lanigan family has run it across three generations. Andrew Lanigan, the current owner, sources native species directly from fishing ports around the UK rather than relying on a single wholesaler, so the counter changes with the season and the tides. Brown shrimp, caught between Southport and the Solway, is the shop's flagship product and draws customers from beyond Lytham St Annes. Alongside daily fresh fish, the shop sells game and poultry, with turkeys and pies a fixture of the Christmas order book. Andrew's son Tom now works the counter full time alongside long-serving staff, continuing a business that has outlasted the supermarkets that arrived on the same street.
