LeftField sits on Barclay Terrace, just off Bruntsfield Links, where Phil White and Rachel Chisholm opened their bistro in March 2017. White trained through a run of Edinburgh kitchens, including Café St Honoré and Fishers in Leith, before setting up on his own, and the menu still leans towards fish and shellfish cooked simply. The compact room seats a modest number of covers, with a short, seasonal menu that changes with what the fish counter and local growers can supply, paired with a wine list built around small, minimal-intervention producers rather than familiar regional names. Service is relaxed rather than formal, and the couple run the front of house themselves most nights. Bookings are recommended at weekends, when the small dining room fills early with a mostly local crowd from the surrounding streets.
