Trading from 9 Cockburn Street since 1996, Underground Solution is Edinburgh's last surviving specialist dance and electronic record shop, having begun in a basement further along the same street before moving to its current above-ground premises. The single shop stocks house, techno, drum and bass and disco vinyl alongside DJ equipment including turntables, mixers and CDJs, functioning as a working resource for the city's DJs rather than a general record store. Stock has broadened over nearly three decades to include rock, soundtracks, West African funk compilations and Japanese pressings. The shop was featured in The Vinyl Factory's survey of the world's best record shops. Cockburn Street runs between the Royal Mile and Waverley Bridge in the Old Town.
