Mount Florida Books opened on Cathcart Road in 2021, founded by Katia Wengraf after a community crowdfunding campaign raised the money to open the shop. Stock runs across literary fiction, poetry, politics and cookery, curated rather than comprehensive, alongside stationery, cards and candles from small makers rather than wholesale gift lines. Wengraf built reinvestment into the shop's structure from the outset, with a share of profits going toward literacy and literary projects elsewhere in Glasgow. The shop hosts author events and takes submissions from independent writers and small presses looking for shelf space, a policy larger chains rarely extend. Opening hours run shorter at the start of the week and longer from Wednesday to Saturday. It sits among the cafes and independent shops that have grown up around Mount Florida's train station.
