Josh and Holly Lyness run Mud Ireland from a studio on Main Street in Moira, throwing functional pottery in small batches rather than to a production schedule. Mugs, bowls and jugs carry glazes worked up from the colours of the Irish landscape, greens and greys that shift slightly from firing to firing, part of the appeal of buying handmade rather than mass-produced. Alongside the retail side, the studio runs pottery classes for beginners and an evening format called Pottery and Pizza, where guests throw a couple of pieces on the wheel and eat between firings, plus longer multi-week courses for anyone wanting to build real skill. Classes are taught by the Lyness's own small team rather than hired instructors, and bookings fill quickly according to regular visitors.
