Nene Valley Spirits distils gin from a unit in the artisan courtyard at Sacrewell, a working farm and country centre at Thornhaugh near Wansford. Local residents Leigh Taylor and John Morris began planning the distillery during the first lockdown in May 2020, opening the doors that December with two gins, Ermine Street and Colibri. Ermine Street takes its name from the Roman road that once ran through the valley and is flavoured with locally foraged rosemary and lemon, while Colibri draws on Latin American botanicals. The founders have said they intend to keep production handcrafted rather than scaling up for supermarket shelves. The distillery was the first of its kind based in Peterborough and the wider Nene Valley, and bottles are sold both from the Sacrewell site and online.
