Lawrence Washington started Purple Moose in a former ironworks in Porthmadog in 2005, moving from home-brewing to a ten-barrel plant and, over twenty years, up to forty — one of Eryri's established independent breweries, and a member of the independent brewers' body SIBA. It runs tours of the brewery mid-week and a shop in the town, and marked its twentieth year in 2025 still owner-run and independent. Porthmadog is the little harbour town where the Ffestiniog railway meets the sea; Purple Moose is its beer, brewed a few streets back from the water. Take the tour, or just call at the shop.
