Rare Thing

Rare Thing opened in the East Street Arcade in November 2022, a small jewellery shop and working studio where the bench sits in full view of the shop floor. Founder Nattie makes every piece by hand from recycled precious metals, specialising in granulation, a technique for fusing tiny spheres of gold into textured surfaces that dates back to around 700 BC. Customers can watch rings, bangles and other pieces take shape from sketch to finished item, alongside bespoke commissions, remodelling of old jewellery and hands-on workshops for those wanting to learn wax carving or silver ring making themselves. The business is a member of the National Association of Jewellers and trades from this single East Street Arcade address only, with no other shop or studio elsewhere in the city.
