Resident has anchored Kensington Gardens since 2004, run by the couple who founded it and staffed by people whose handwritten recommendation cards are the shop's real editorial voice — the trade polls have repeatedly put it among the country's best independent record shops, and Record Store Day treats it as one of its south-coast homes. The stock runs new-release deep across indie, electronic and the outer reaches, with the queue on RSD morning wrapping the North Laine block as reliably as the seagulls. Twenty years into the vinyl revival it helped argue for, the shop's case looks rather won.
