Richard and Hazel run two shepherd's huts on their smallholding at Plas yn Rhos, above Betws-y-Coed in the Snowdonia foothills, having built the first hut themselves before adding a second and, more recently, converting a barn into further accommodation. Each hut is let exclusively to one party at a time, paired with its own separate wash hut holding a shower, basin, composting toilet and a wood-fired sauna. A fully equipped outdoor kitchen with a gas barbecue, a fire pit and a riverside setting replace a conventional dining room, and there is deliberately no mobile signal, television or radio on site. Beds are dressed with Welsh blankets and sheepskin rugs rather than standard hotel linen. The huts carry Visit Wales's Quality Assured status and won a Gold Award in 2023, run as a genuine two-person operation rather than a holiday-let portfolio.
