Somerset Strings

Somerset Strings is a one-person luthiery workshop run from Dodd Avenue in Wells, offering guitar setup, repair and custom building services. The maker trained under Phil Messer at the Totnes School of Guitar Making before establishing the workshop in 2022, and combines instrument-making skills with a background in electronics, covering rewiring, pickup replacement and refret work as well as full custom acoustic and electric builds. The business also services amplifiers, both valve and solid-state, and holds certified repair status with Taylor Guitars. Visits are by appointment, arranged by phone or message rather than passing trade, reflecting the workshop's basis in a small home premises rather than a retail shopfront. Work is carried out entirely on site rather than sent away to third parties.
