Surveyed
Devon's first commercial brewpub: Peter Hawkesley set a three-barrel kit going in March 1983 in an 1850 railway inn at Newton St Cyres, and the Beer Engine has brewed ever since — the county's oldest working microbrewery, with five house-brewed casks on the handpumps and a viewing gallery onto the brewhouse below. Will Maltby and Victoria De Polo have run it as a free house since 2015, SIBA members, with the beer travelling out to festivals and other bars well beyond the pub's own door. Full days Thursday to Saturday; bar-only afternoons the rest of the week.
