The DornochBookshop

The Dornoch Bookshop trades from the High Street, stocking Scottish, travel, biography, fiction, crime and cookery titles alongside Ordnance Survey maps, classical music CDs and stationery. A children's corner has its own small table and chairs for younger readers to sit and browse. The shop offers book ordering and mailing, along with photocopying and fax facilities for locals without their own machines nearby. It opens Monday to Saturday from ten until five and closes on Sundays. Outside, weather permitting, a coffee cart converted from a Piaggio van serves customers browsing the window display. The bookshop operates under the Dornoch Area Community Interest Company, a not-for-profit structure that keeps a specialist bookshop trading on the high street of a small Sutherland town, well away from any chain retailer or online-only model.
