Lochinver Larder

Ian and Debra Stewart opened Lochinver Larder in 1986, building its reputation on a double-thick pastry pie recipe still used today. Now under owner John Snyder, who bought the business in January 2020, it operates as a riverside bistro with cafe-style seating alongside a deli counter selling pies to take away, some sent nationwide through its Pies by Post service. The Assynt setting looks out over the river and loch from a garden used for outdoor eating in summer. Snyder has framed his ownership around creating local jobs and training opportunities to help keep young people in Lochinver. Thirteen pie varieties are available, served hot in the garden or packed cold for the road, alongside the wider bistro and bar menu introduced under the newer ownership.
