Ryan Blackburn cooks and his brother Craig runs the room, in the cellars of the building where Wordsworth spent years as Distributor of Stamps for Westmorland — a bureaucratic day job commemorated, fittingly, by a kitchen obsessed with where things come from. The restaurant opened in 2014, took its Michelin star in October 2019 and has held it since, working Cumbrian ingredients — Herdwick, char, the county's growers — into tasting menus that argue the Lake District needs no imports. The company register is a family document: four Blackburns, no one else. Four services a week, Wednesday to Saturday, and worth arranging a week around.
