Newtown's Regent Cinema occupies a building raised in the 1830s as the town's Flannel Exchange, later a public hall and post office, before being remodelled in Art Deco style and reopened as a cinema in 1937. A local syndicate bought the building and reopened it as a 210-seat independent cinema, using the original circle seating, in December 1986, and it continues to operate as a two-screen venue outside any chain ownership. Alongside daily film screenings it hosts private cinema parties for birthdays and other celebrations, and gaming days when customers bring consoles to play on the big screen. The auditorium retains features from its 1937 conversion. It is located on Broad Street in the centre of Newtown, within the Regent Centre building.
