Tipsea Wines

Tipsea Wines opened in 2023 on Grape Lane, one of Whitby's oldest streets, as the town's first dedicated wine shop open to the public. Adam Sheldon and Chris Hadley, longtime friends who between them had long careers running family restaurants, set the business up first as a trade supplier to local bars and restaurants before opening the retail side above their own warehouse. The shop works directly with small, family-owned wineries rather than large importers, steering customers away from supermarket-standard bottles toward less familiar regions and producers. Staff talk customers through the list rather than leaving them to browse unassisted, and the shop has applied to run pre-booked evening tasting sessions on the premises. It is open every day except Wednesday.
