On Grape Lane in Whitby, the museum occupies the 17th-century house where Cook lodged as an apprentice when not at sea, learning his seaman's trade in the town. The collections cover the ten years he spent exploring the Pacific, South Atlantic and Arctic oceans. Open daily from 7 February to 1 November, with reduced hours in November and a winter closure from December to February half term. The 2026 exhibition is Imagined Geographies & First Encounters.
