Tyne Bank Brewery was founded in 2011 by chemical engineer Julia Austin, who left industrial manufacturing to brew cask and keg beer after a research trip to breweries on the American west coast. The operation moved into a former Victorian goods warehouse on Walker Road, Byker, in 2016, fitting sixteen keg taps and eight cask lines around the brewing plant itself. New owners took over in 2022 and have continued to run the single Byker premises as both a working brewery and a taproom, rather than opening further sites. Cask stouts, blondes, pale ales and porters are produced on site and served in the attached tap room, which also hosts weddings and private functions inside the exposed brick and steel warehouse structure. The brewery does not operate a satellite bar or second production site elsewhere in the city.
