Tyneside Cinema has operated from the same Grade II-listed Art Deco building on Pilgrim Street since 1937, when it opened as a newsreel theatre. Now an independent charity with four screens, it shows a mix of new releases, world cinema and archive programming, alongside a cafe bar and a separate coffee bar on the ground floor, and is the last full-time newsreel cinema still operating in the UK.
